FAQs
What is recovery coaching?
Recovery coaching is a non-clinical, self-directed, strengths-based partnership between coach and client with the goal of achieving long-term recovery and improved quality of life.
As a recovery coach, we help individuals on the path of recovery, before, during, and after treatment. We assist clients with identifying and overcoming barriers to recovery, including stigma and shame.
What are the benefits of recovery coaching?
Triggers will be alive in our day-to-day world, so it’s imperative to create a watertight strategy to manage how we react to those threats to recovery.
By being strategic, having a coach, and putting a structure in place for your recovery, you’ll have the best opportunity for long term recovery.
Some of the many benefits include:
- Our assistance with navigating your recovery journey
- Learning evidence-based tools for behavioural change
- Habit forming and goal setting
- Adopting a more balanced and holistic approach to life
- Developing effective practices to help with emotional regulation
- Mindfulness practices for stress reduction and resilience
- Accountability and ongoing support.
How do I know if this is for me?
We provide coaching for individuals who are seeking a supportive and proactive coach to stay aligned to what they want to achieve in life and ensure they maintain intentional, strong recovery. This includes identifying and overcoming barriers to recovery, including stigma and shame.
Recovery coaching is effective for you if you:
- are struggling to get sober
- have stopped the addictive behaviours but know that without additional support you’re going to end up back where you were
- have done rehab and/or 12 Steps but are now looking for some additional support and inspiration on your recovery and life journey
- have recently put the pain of a detox behind you, just checked out of rehab or it’s been a while since your last drink or drug, and you’re now motivated to stay away from your old life
- know you’re not your best self when you’re around your partner and kids
- know you could lose everything you’ve worked so hard for, if you continue, or return to, addiction.
How do sessions work?
Whether it’s daily, weekly or ongoing coaching, you’ll have a dedicated coach and team in your corner supporting you all the way to reaching your desired recovery and life goals.
Your program can be as simple as one session at the start of the week to set you up or daily sessions at cocktail hour to use this ‘danger’ time engaged in enhancing your life. The program can also be a combination of working with our extended team.

How is this different to rehab?
Traditional rehabs, recovery groups, clinical psychology, pharmacology or medical support alone do not effectively treat addiction. Many of these recovery options are based on the belief of addiction on the biomedical model of brain disease; others on the moral model of a spiritual illness. These views are very limited and don’t take other psychological and social factors into account. Many rehab clinics have sky high relapse rates and then the question remains: “What next?”.
Undeniably, trauma work, social communities, medical support, healthy living and mindfulness are incredibly important elements to recovery but they don’t create the full picture of building a life free from addiction. There are benefits of recovery groups and some traditional recovery methods, however we believe they are best utilised prior to, or as an addition to, recovery coaching.
At a fraction of the cost of traditional intensive inpatient or outpatient care, our programs are specifically designed to work for you and your other life commitments.
The approach we take is one of consciously co-creating with you the life you want without drink, drugs or damaging behaviours. Together with you, we develop mindfulness practices and work with grounding tools to maintain or reach a sense of calm and take away the desire to pick up. We utilise a combination of tools and approaches, from traditional psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, compassionate enquiry, mindfulness, goals-oriented coaching, experiential learning, somatics and spiritual principles.
How do you know what I need?
After a full online assessment of your condition and current situation, From Here On will put together a fully-personalised recovery program that you can do from the comfort and safety of your home or home office via Zoom.
Your daily or weekly program will address all aspects of your healing - mind, body and spirit (for those with a spiritual belief system).
Is this a rehab clinic?
No.
Our online coaching service is a unique approach to recovery and incorporates CBT, motivational interviewing, mindfulness, goal setting, accountability and peer support. Our method is based on the latest understanding of the neuroscience of addiction and complex trauma. In each session your coach will work with you to achieve your recovery goals, let go of damaging behaviours and build resilience to deal with life’s challenges.
Please be aware that a condition of the programs is to be sober from chemical addictions. This is important for your own well being and progress. You will need to have a period of sobriety to enter the program (the length of sobriety will depend on the severity of the prior addiction, from 1 week to 3 months). In regards to ‘process’ addictions like gambling and sex, individual assessments will identify if we are able to take you on immediately. Without substances in your system it’s likely you can start immediately. If you are currently in active addiction, we can still help - initially in other ways, such as assisting you to get sober with a home detox, referral to detox or rehab. Once you’re free from acute withdrawal, we can actively start working with you. We’re happy to guide you through the process of detox to working with us and building a new life free from addiction.
What is your approach?

We employ a science-based approach and apply a layered complexity of understanding in a simple format. We offer more than just good willed support for your recovery: we practise methods that keep you in recovery and help you start loving your life without alcohol, drugs or addictive behaviours.
